There is no single schedule for every home

Many Ontario homeowners book duct cleaning every few years, but timing depends on the home. Renovations, pets, heavy dust, moving into a resale home, visible debris at vents and long gaps since the last cleaning are stronger reasons than the calendar alone.

When duct cleaning makes the most sense

Duct cleaning is most useful after drywall work, basement finishing, construction dust, pet shedding, smoke or odor concerns, or when a furnace replacement exposes dusty ductwork. It can also be paired with dryer vent cleaning.

When to look beyond the ducts

If dust returns quickly, also check the furnace filter, return-air leaks, humidifier settings, open windows, carpets and general home cleaning. Duct cleaning removes duct buildup, but it does not stop every source of household dust.
